The Trump administration has attacked multiple groups of people since January. The starting point was the DEI initiatives where President Trump used a plan crash to suggest that DEI hires were to blame for the crash. Then came the fires in L.A where he again blamed DEI. Things only got worse from there with all of his lies about who was to blame for the various tragedies. There isn’t any reason for this other than cruelty and hatred of anyone that isn’t white, non-disabled, and male.

President Trump has also targeted transgender and non binary people since his return to office. One of his first executive orders was to declare that people would only be recognized and men or women. Various orders have followed regarding the use of bathrooms, trans girls in sports, the blocking of passport changes and more None of these are founded on any reality and are all about transphobia.

Dr. Oz and RFK, Jr. have both made statements regarding disability and chronic illness that make it clear they consider both to be moral failings. That if you are disabled or sick it’s always your own fault for not taking care of yourself. They have suggested that if we ate better food and exercised more we would never get sick or ill and our children would never be disabled. All of this is untrue and harmful to those of us with disabilities and/or chronic illness.

The chart below shows the history of left handedness from survay data reported in “The History and Geography of Human Handedness”. You can see the sharp increase in the percentage of left handed individuals on the chart. This corresponds with the shift to allowing kids to use their left hand. My grandfather’s generation was mostly prevented from using their left hands (often violently), mine most often were not. There are similar trends with Trans and LGBTQIA+ individuals being able to express themselves. There are also similar trends for disabled people including Autistic individuals. There appear to be more of us now because more of us have been able to exist in public without being hidden away and abused.

A line graph with percentages on x-axis and years on the y-axis. The line makes a sharp jump upwards in percentage at 1940 and holds steady through 2000

I’m sure the current administration would love to bring back the ugly laws of the earlier generations that made it illegal for disabled (and poor people) to exist in public. There are already threats of rounding up homeless individuals (many of whom are disabled) and locking them away in institutions. ICE is snatching immigrants off the streets and locking them away in detention centers and / or deporting them without due process. Again several of them also have disabilities which are likely being made worse by the horrific conditions in those detention centers.

Every single situation that is happening right now is about eugenics. About the current administration deciding who is allowed to continue to exist in their version of the United States. There’s no other way to explain it.
